Kayak with dolphins

Paddling a kayak around the local marine park provides a pleasantly different perspective of Byron, and also gives you the opportunity to get up close to dolphins and sea turtles. Lessons are available if you need them.

You can’t visit Byron without hitting the surf, and if you need a few tips first then it’s easy to organise lessons that suit your level of capability. All sorts of surfboards and wetsuits are available for hire in the town centre.

Located right on Main Beach, this is Byron’s most famous pub. Open every day from 8.00 am and known for its relaxed atmosphere, the Beachy serves early-bird breakfasts through to classic pub lunches and dinners. 

The Mez Club

With its distinctly Mediterranean feel and flavours, this popular cantina and bar is open for lunch and dinner, with meals inspired by the ‘souks’ of Morocco and traditional family feasts from Greece and Turkey. 

The Top Shop

A favourite for brekkies, lunches and takeaways, this laid-back corner store with its diverse décor and surf memorabilia is renowned for its creative burgers, house-made pastries and really good coffees from single-origin roasters.

Overlooking Main Beach, here’s the place to enjoy contemporary Italian fare that showcases the finest local produce, elegantly presented in a relaxed setting with good wines, classic cocktails – and an ocean view.  

Newrybar Merchants

Located in the historic village of Newrybar, this concept store represents a collective of local artisans and curators of fine goods, whose wares include fashion, rugs, artefacts, flowers, stationery, toys and art, with occasional workshops too.
